The new jamiesaysmile EP will be called 'Outside Now' and will be officially released on 2nd June.

I usually record, mix, produce and master my tracks myself in the home studio - but this 6 track EP was deliberately made at Greenmount Studios with Lee and Jamie (who were brilliant to work with).

As intended, the tracks definitely have a different feel to previous releases whilst still staying true to the songwriting style.

More gigs on the board too, expect more to come

Very delighted to confirm I'll be playing Long Division festival 2014. It's an amazing line-up across the whole weekend, including The Cribs, no less! Very pleased to be part of this.

This year the fesitval dates have changed to 12-14th Sept to coincide with the opening of the sleeping giant that is 'Unity Hall' as it reopens it's doors to fulfil it's potential as a very large and hugely important venue for Wakefield and the North.

This multi-Venue festival works perfectly within a very close-knit Wakefield - it's always a brilliant weekend with a great atmosphere and it's set to be bigger and better this year with Unity in the mix, so make sure you get your tickets ASAP before they go.

Unorthodox I know but I've recently returned from a northern / Scottish roadtrip playing 'pop up' acoustic gigs in various places (a busking tour, if you will)

This included some stunning places like Aysgarth, Keswick, Alloway and some buzzing places like the streets of Glasgow and Edinburgh
photo of jamiesaysmile playing an acoustic pop up gig (stunning backdrop)
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip and thanks to everyone that watched / clapped / followed / liked along the way

Filming is finished for the video now and we're into editing territory - Ash is doing his stuff n making it all pull together. A lot of brisk costume changes to squeeze in there - our 'lead male' has been nothing short of a star throughout...a legend.

EP mastering is about there now, Jamie and Lee have done a brilliant job again. There'll be some time getting the final pieces in place to release it but its still looking like a May release as things stand!

Some gigs on the board too, expect more to come

Cracking on with mix tweaks and now mastering with Greenmount Studios Really pleased with how these new songs are sounding!

Looking at a May release at the moment and the video should be around then too. I'll confirm the dates on here soon as I can!

A well known face round these parts has kindly agreed to be the main character in the upcoming video

I've just arrived back from a fun day of shooting with Ash (Skysail Studios) - it involved shorts, what must have been the world's first tennis racquet and ice cream (did i mention the conditions were a little on the chilly side?)

Looking good so far though - updates to follow

THE HEPWORTH: I'm well pleased to be playing Rhubarb Bomb's Christmas event @The Hepworth Gallery on 15th Dec. It's a great lineup in a really interesting venue, with Pip Mountjoy, Jonnythefirth, Mi Mye and The Wave Pictures - to name a few. It kicks off at 12 - hope to see you there!

RM HUBBERT: I was honoured and humbled to share the stage with the ridiculously good RM Hubbert and local heroes Mi Mye (solo set) on 2nd Dec @TheHopWakefield.

These guys really are 2 of my favourites. They played great and I hope to do the whole thing again sometime soon.

VIDEO: I mentioned in the last update that there will be a video coming next year along with the new EP. We've already made a start and done some filming with Ash from Skysail Studios. Again, I'm very much looking forward to seeing this evolve into the finished video.

This will be the last update prior to the New Year - Have a brilliant Christmas...until the next installment in 2014.

New songs have now been tracked at Greenmount Studios. Had an absolutely great few days with Lee and Jamie. As predicted and planned, the tracks have a different vibe but one I'm really pleased with.

There's more work to be done on it yet, but I'm looking forward to sharing with everyone next year (release date TBC). In other news, there are plans for a music video to accompany this release (exciting stuff! more updates soon)

Finally, 2nd Dec - I'm playing a great gig with RM Hubbert and Mi Mye @thehopwakefield. See you there!

I've been busy working on new material. Studio time is all booked at the legendary Greenmount Studios next month. To say I'm excited about this would be a massive understatement.

Whilst I'm used to recording in my home studio, I want to take this next record to a different place and see where we get to. Jamie and Lee at Greenmount are great musicians and producers (fact.) so the intention is to use that and come out with a new blend.

The songs are written, just finalising the last bits before studio time.
In summary, this is likely to be a different sounding release, in a good way!

The release date is TBC but will be next year.

I'll be playing Common Folk gig at King's Arms, Heath Common (Wakefield) on 14th Sept. I've had the pleasure of playing these events before and it's always, without fail a really great vibe / day out. Hopefully see you there.

Last month I was named #ArtistoftheDay by Oxjam Leeds - Big thanks to those guys. You can check out the great stuff they do over here: Oxjam Leeds (facebook)

Also, back in July I was pleased to be asked to play the first Wood Street Market - a great day out with plenty happening including live original music. The day was a success and is / will continue to run by the looks of things - brilliant news, thanks for having me.

Grand Authentic Stage has been received very well with positive reviews: "As a first encounter, it can't fail to impress you, as a second taste of what he has up his sleeve it's doubly delightful, because what he has delivered is another anthemic, perfect pop pearl of a record." - Matt Rhodie, Rhubarb Bomb

Both the layered, full-band sounding tracks (1 to 3) and the 2 acoustic version tracks (4 & 5) have been received very positively...

"I'm still undecided whether I prefer the acoustic songwriter or alternative rock version of Hayes. Fortunately he's pretty good at both on this evidence 7/10 - Joe Lepper, Neon Filler

"Although the opening three tracks are full band tracks it's the two acoustic songs that finish the EP that really stand out as they help to portray the excellent solo shows that Hayes puts on. Matt Hill, Impropaganda

The 5 track EP includes three big, full band tracks that have only been made available to stream before now, with two never before heard acoustic versions, reflecting the live acoustic set often on show at jamiesaysmile gigs today.

Only a few days away now!... On Sat June 8th I'm playing an acoustic set at this years Long Division festival in Wakefield, along with a LOT of brilliant bands across several, close-by venues. I'm pleased to say i'm playing the main day this year (Saturday) at 2.15pm at the Orangery: a beautiful grade II building with lovely surrounding gardens; a really special venue (very close to the train station).

Get your tickets sorted ASAP - there's a load of ace stuff happening on the Friday and Sunday too - it'll be an awesome weekend!

Well, it's not, strictly speaking but I am playing a part, for 2 nights of the Patrick James Pearson Band UK tour promoting their new album "And So It Goes". Having checked these guys out online, I'm convinced this WILL be an awesome gig.

Harry George Johns is the main support for many dates of the PJP Band tour as well, including these 2 (a BIG thank you to Harry for getting me involved). Having already witnessed the brilliance of Harry, this is going to be a fantastic couple of nights in Yorkshire.

The first is at The Hop in Wakefield on Thurs 16th May - a great, very familiar music venue with good beer! The second is at Santiago's Bar in Leeds on Friday 17th May - never played here before but it looks like a great venue.
Looking forward to this!

UPDATE: The PJP band and Harry George Johns were absolutely fantastic. I've also listened to the PJP band album - it's well worth a purchase. Cable 35 also played and smashed it! Thanks to everyone for coming to a special couple of evenings.

The warm up gig went well and I'm really pleased to confirm I'll be playing Long Division 2013 on Sat 8th June! In fact, all of the bands playing that particular warm up gig will be playing the festival as it turns out, including the really talented Jasmine Kennedy Have you got your ticket yet? check out for details. This will be a brilliant weekend, believe me. Hopefully see you there!

MAR 2013: GIGS
Pleased to say I have two great gigs coming up this month...
On Thurs 7th March I'm really pleased to be supporting Harry George Johns at The Hop in Wakefield - Harry has a strong following, great songs and an exceptional voice so this should be a really great night.

Also on Thurs 28th March I'm equally pleased to be one of four bands playing a Long Division warm up gig at Velvet in Wakefield. This is the fourth of it's kind encouraging Wakefield based artists/bands that haven't played this awesome festival before to show what they can do which may potentially lead to playing Long Division 2013 on Sat 8th June this year. The festival actually runs across the full weekend, from 7th - 9th June in Wakefield city centre; 70 bands across 8 close by venues, with more interesting/fun stuff still to be announced! I've experienced LD as an excitable punter for the last couple of years - each time it's been positively buzzing like I've never seen Wakefield before...fingers crossed, this year there's a chance I may be able to be more involved and play a live set on the Saturday. We'll see how this warm up gig goes and I'll keep you posted! Be great to see you down for one/both of these gigs!
*UPDATE* Thurs 28th March gig has had to change venues and will now take place at the Hop in Wakefield

FEB 2013: Amazing Radio
Be great if you could play / download the tracks here: jamiesaysmile tracks on Amazing Tunes
The more plays / downloads on here, the more likely they are to get some airplay on Amazing Radio, a pretty cool Digital radio station
Cheers very much!

That's right, Rhubarb Bomb have gone and released a christmas cracker of an EP titled "Snowglobe EP" with some of wakefield's finest dabbling in the christmas genre! jamiesaysmile has sneaked in there, collaborating with relatively unknown songwriters "Spareroom" to contribute to the EP. The song is called "Blue Christmas", track 4 on the EP. It's available on a 'name your price' digital download (i.e. free if you want) but any contributions go towards the upkeep of Rhubarb Bomb (a good musical cause!) - You can listen and / or download it HERE - enjoy, merry christmas all

JULY 2012: jamiesaysmile EP Review
We have a review back from our good friends at Rhubarb Bomb, Wakefield's finest music-zine. It's a very positive and encouraging review indeed of the jamiesaysmile debut 4 track EP: "Day Three" and putting my bias aside, a well written article by Matt Rhodie. Thanks for this Matt. MAY 2012: jamiesaysmile EP Launch at Long Division (sun 3rd June 6pm)
jamiesaysmile's debut 4 track EP titled "Day Three" is to be released by the one and only DIY label Geek Pie Records. The launch will coincide with Wakefield's very own Long Division Festival; the much anticipated follow up to last year's successful and revered close-knit, multi-venue music festival. This year has another amazing line-up and runs from 1st to 3rd June. I am naturally pleased & humbled to have the opportunity to perform a stripped back accoustic set on Sun 3rd June (6pm), which will also mark my first official EP release. More about this in due course but in the meantime, if you're one of the few who haven't sorted it yet, you really do need to buy yourself (and all your friends) a Long Division ticket, (only 15 for 75 bands and unprecedented fun!) - So, hopefully see you at Long Division (especially at the Hop, Sun 3rd June, 6pm)?

APR 2012: live jamiesaysmile acoustic performance
I had the privilege of performing my first 'stripped back' live acoustic set at (legendary wakefield based music Indie-zine) Rhubarb Bomb's 5th birthday bash at The Orangery in Wakefield (21st Apr). An awesome venue and a very special day it was too, with a shed load of awesome bands playing. Rhubarb Bomb Editor (Dean Freeman) wrote and launched a book (yes, an actual published book) with accompanying CD to celebrate the occassion and document the history of Rhubarb Bomb and its place within a wider DIY / zine landscape. It's a special thing and you can buy your copy here: "Rhubarb Bomb: The City Consumes Us" by Dean Freeman it, everyone else has!

MAR 2012: jamiesaysmile EP release in the pipeline
quick update to say that work is underway on a 4 track, first 'official' EP release with those lovely people at Geek Pie Records Excited? Yes I am! Anticipating a late April / early May release so do watch this space for updates

FEB 2012: ODAS EP release
ODAS EP "The Future Is Not Ours, Comrade" has now been released, with myself drumming on the record. Bias aside, it's a really great sounding EP, recorded and produced by Rob Slater (who you'll know from The Spills) at the excellent Greenmount Studios and the songs absolutely speak for themselves. You can preview here and download for a supremely reasonable price: ODAS Bandcamp
Also, you can find and download if you choose, a jamiesaysmile remix track of ODAS 'Waves of Fatalism'. This is one where I've taken the ODAS lyrics only and rewritten, recorded and produced an entirely different song. There's a number of great bands / artists who have remixed tracks from the ODAS EP too - please take a listen here: Remix EP

OCT 2011: Vibrations Review of 'At The Time' / 'Future Analyst'
A first review of "At the Time" and "Future Analysts" from the lovely people at Vibrations magazine - very positive it is too! The highlights: "This first venture from Wakefield-based artist Dan Hayes instantly shows talent. Interesting rhythms and textures give it a Biffy Clyro/Tubelord up-beat feel...jamiesaysmile is definitely one to keep tabs on" You can read the full Vibrations magazine Oct issue here (see p32).

JUL 2011: ODAS
I've been helping out my good friend Dean with some recording / gigs, drumming in his band One Day After School (ODAS). If you've not heard any of ODAS's stuff it's well worth a listen. I'll also be drumming for an ODAS EP release towards the end of 2011 / early 2012 - gonna be good. Still writing/recording my own stuff of course too.

APR 2011: "Future Analyst" uploaded
Future Analyst is a project undertaken by jamiesaysmile released on Geek Pie Records as part of the 'Future Relics' bonus CD. The lyrics are taken from One Day After School's excellent song "Future Analyst" with the music/melody/song completely rewritten - an 'extreme remix' you might say. You can listen to Future Analyst on the music page here or you can listen / download all of the bonus CD from Geek Pie Records here

Thanks goes out to Copy Paste Repeat (Adam) who has done a great job and remained patient and cool throughout!
